Recent News A Thing Eckerd Team Loses to the Reigning Champs - Mar 2, 2008With the Tritons numbers in the low teens they knew they would have to work hard to keep the game against the defending champs close. Two quick goals early by the Eagles made the Eckerd Defense switch strategies for the rest of the game. With almost no time on offense the Eckerd D played till they dropped. The Eagles seemed off thier game when faced with Eckerd zone defense. Senior Captain Branden Shane made some spectacular saves during the match keeping the score much closer then it could have been. Ther first quarter was a big hit for the Eckerd lacrosse squad. Eckerds leading scorer, Ryan Graham, left the game due to a knee injury within two minutes of the first face off. Several minutes later Eckerds main face off middie was ejected from the game. With Eckerds numbers dwindeling for the entire match they had to buckle down and play their game. Sophomore Conor Allen's 4 goals led the Tritons offense followed by Senior Captain Max Weinberg's 3. The game was physical throughout with some big hits and plenty of penalties. The KSU Owls ended the day with 15 penalties, adding up to 15:30 in penalty time. The game came down to the wire with the Eckerd defense stopping the Owls in the final minutes. Uneccessary penalties at the end of the fourth by the Owls defense sealed the game for the Tritons. Eckerd Ends the weekend 2-0 with a win over Jacksonville - Feb 24, 2008 Eckerd entered Sunday nights game with the chance to end the weekend 2-0. The game started off slow, but then the strong offense kicked in and the Tritons were able to build a comfortable lead going into the 2nd quarter. Jacksonville fought back, scoring a few goals on an unsettled Eckerd defense. The offense was spread across the board for Eckerd, with goals coming from Senior mid-fielder Daniel Fickett and Sophomore Mike Manly. The defense was strong with Sophomore defensemen Keegan Bird and Dexter Howard abusing the opposing attack all night. Eckerd proved that they are going to be a tough team to match up with as the season continues. Eckerd Beats PBA In A Close One - Feb 23, 2008 The Tritons had their regular season home opener Saturday night against in state rivals, Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Eckerd contingent was well represented in the stands, with the usual rowdy fans, and a number of family members in town for family weekend. The game started off with Eckerd down 3 goals. The offense came back with a goal by Sophomore mid-fielder Peter McGuire. The Eckerd offense was headed by dominant face-off performances by Conor Allen and Peter Kopp. The game remained close throughout the second half, with both teams seeing plenty of man-up oppurtunities. Rob Clipper and the Eckerd defense were able to keep it close in these dicey situations. The Triton offense kept us one goal ahead, and was able to pull off the close win on the go ahead goal by the new Junior Captain Ryan Graham. It was a good start to the weekend, we'd like to thank all of the family members that were able to make it down for this weekend. Especially to the Loftis' and Russell's for their help in filming and time keeping. The Tritons Lose In A Physical Game - Feb 10, 2008 Eckerd College saw a tough fought first quarter yeilding a score of 0-0 at its end. SCAD came back to put in 5 goals in the second leaving Eckerd a managble 5 goal defict at the half. Eckerd goalie Branden Shane played exceptional throughout the match stuffing SCAD shots every time he got the chance. Eckerd was unable to put points on the board until the third quarter when Michael "Maine Event" Russell sneaked one past the SCAD goalie. The game turned physical in the second half with SCAD offensive bodies hitting the groud everywhere. Eckerds squad felt the effects of fatigue during the second half of the game allowing the SCAD offense to score 11 goals before the final buzzer, but not after putting in two more goals of there own to finish off the match. Eckerd looks foward to seeing SCAD in Atlanta for a re-match in the playoffs if all goes well to that point.
